Tips on Drawing
Cleaning and Fixing
This process is not
necessary if you aren't going to color on the computer. Of course, if you are doing hand
shading, and you crushed and creased the old copy, you will need to do this. First off,
you'll need the first darkened copy, tape, tip sharpener, HB pencil, and a clean sheet of
paper. Tape the clean sheet over the darkened copy on all four sides (notice I only have
three sides taped in the example.) Don't press the tape down real hard, and don't use a
bunch. You are going to need to remove it when you finish this, and if the copies are
bondaged together you might rip the paper. Once you have that done, you will need to take
the taped sheets to a light table. Most people don't have these, including me; you'll have
to use something else. I use a thick pane of glass and I put my desk light on the floor.
This way the light comes up and makes the first image visible to me. Another thing you
could use is a glass tabletop. That would be the best thing to use if you don't have a
light table. You'll still need to put a light source under the table though. Anyway, once
you are all set, just do the same thing you did when you darkened the image. Remember to
keep your tip sharp. Most people "ink" the drawing, but I like to use pencil
because you can fix a mistake if you mess up, also graphite doesn't bleed on paper like
ink.
